Mona Wallström

I think what the artist herself says is the essence of this work;
...Plywood - wood in thin layers with crossing fibers - is a common in buildings and furniture as a construction material. The stripes on the edges in the material are very interesting. If using it for modeling organic forms the stripes will affect the visual expression. It can distort form but can also be used for making patterns to underline parts of the object...
These jewelry designs are part of the installation/exhibition "Greetings from Plywood Palace" first time presented in 2007. This year is going to be a solo-show for Mona Wallström in Konsthantverkarna Stockholm Sweden.
Enough said, time to contemplate now...

Day home collection

It's been quite rainy and chilly for a couple days now...My cardi wasn't enough, I had to bring back my red coat on my daily walk in the neigbourhood(ok, I do looove wearing my favorite coat with any given excuse!). It's funny how a twist on the weather can change your spirits too...So, those purple and gray images of Day Birger et Mikkelsen home collection were fit to my moods. An all bohemian collection yet modern and glamorous! If you feel like visiting their site you 'll definitely be swoon over a zillion things!

Look no further cause you found beauty... Maybe you heard him before, maybe his images were familiar in a way... Paul Massey is, afterall, a worldwide established photographer for his news and features work, having won numerous prestigious awards. Today though, in those pictures we see another fragile side of this great man. The images above depict a delicate atmosphere. A stillness of perfection, an inner wise spirit. They capture light and shadow in a manner of rare ability and present them to us in all their glorious substance...

A house in Ljubljana

There are certain aspects in the lines and form of this contemporary home that make it irresistible at least to my eyes! It's open plan living and the abundance of natural light present an eclectic choice and an environmental awareness. Natural materials that blend perfectly with the characteristics of the space create a serene living lieu. The surroundings of the building are equally designed to provide simplicity and calmness. Much praise to the work of Bevk Perovic Arhitekti.

Edward van Vliet designs

Ever since Domino magazine featured this day bed design from Edward van Vliet I became addicted to his creations. A wide range of works includes textiles, interior design, lighting, furniture and corporate identity. A -still press hot- collaboration with the Greek-Dutch bedding company Coco-Mat will introduce three sleep concepts for both hotels and consumers.

Warm tones & rough surfaces

Seemingly different interiors grouped together under one notion. The rough edges are softened by a painting or some textiles, even some blossomed brunches. Materials like porcelain can also smooth the effect. Mute colors and warm tones create an eclectic atmosphere while natural light enhances shapes and forms. I see myself move freely in thoses spaces, absorbing their natural pace and becoming part of it...

Sandberg textiles & wallpaper

A while ago, I was looking around the net for upholstery that will have remarkable quality and elegant design. You tell me how difficult is that? The textile industry is flowering! That's true and we see amazing designers pop up everyday, but when it comes to upholstery your choices are narrowed quite a lot because not just any textile will do for the job! At the beginning it was frustrating because most of my finds where of extremely high prices and even if I wasn't going to buy wholesale still it seemed unreasonable to spend a fortune for a few yards! That said, imagine how I felt when I discovered Sandberg! Truly amazed by their patterns and grateful that they carried a vast variety of upholstery to choose from! Do you need more? The prices are totally affordable and they have retailers all over the world. That's quite handy and in fact, I went and checked it in person before making my order! My choice? It was kiriko dark blue!

P.S.
the wallpapers are great too!

Yee-Haw Industries

I was looking for some inspiraton and I found it on the imaginery of Yee-Haw Industries! It's a studio full of custom letterpress printmaking and a design shop. I think you'll like to spend some time around in their place, exploring all the unique graphic creations. It's good to know that these folks are using salvage equipment and recycled materials -so good for the enviroment too! Enjoy!

Let's talk about tea...

This is a ritual (tea making) that has spread all over the world. I'm a coffee person myself but I must confess that tea culture fascinates me. From emperors to humble men, the harvest of this blessed herb accompanies the most of their lives. Social networking involves around tea consuming which depends on the country and civilization. Especially in Asia it's accustomed for tea to be served free of charge in a restaurant. Thomas Sullivan, a New York tea importer back in 1908 accidentally invent tea bags when he used silk bags to sample his varieties as an means of cutting costs. LoL! Customers were, in fact, more interested in the bags and start complaining when their orders arrived without them!

Viva Basico

As I say is never too early to think about summer holidays, so to speak, I bumped the other day into the site of Hotel Basico in Mexico. My, what a site! Mexico always felt exotic, but this fine design hotel adds a hot touch to it. I spent quite some time drooling over their images, having fun with all the witty features on the site and dreaming heavenly vacations at Playa del Carmen!

Past homework

I'm sitting in my unattractive small office dreaming of a place like this. I guess it's the semiotics of the image that infuse my brain with millions of thoughts. The openess of the space interacts with my soul. Bare walls give a feeling of freedom. Maybe the interiors are evoking a spartan aesthetic but this strict perspective creates an enviromnent for meditation and creation. I imagine the beginning of a great book, the concept of some great piece of art... Humble but solid furniture to support the birth of a masterpiece. Hard wearing wooden floors to support those steps in eternity. Our world is constanlty changing but certain aspects remain intact...

Chinese China

I admit it, I can't help it... I'm a big fun of chinese stuff! Especially the antique ones. I can still recall the times when me and my mum would pay visits to this old dusty place of magical and often hidden treasures. I would look around with awe trying to visualise the kinds of people that once had all these things and had to let go. Usually we'd return back home with a new belonging to add in mum's vast collection of antiques. Even today, that my taste has shift away for more eclectic and modern style I still want -from time to time to get my hands on an old chinese blue vase.
